New to bread? Have a dutch oven? This easy and quick bread recipe will not disappoint.
5 simple ingredients.
Approximate prep. time 2.5 hours.
Ingredients
6 cups Oak Manor Organic Hard Unbleached Flour (or 5 cups Hard and 1 Unbleached Cake and Pastry for softer texture).
3 cups luke-warm water
1 tbsp Sea Salt
4 ½ tsp Instant yeast
2 tbsp Sugar
In a bowl add the yeast to the water and whisk until mixed and foamy.
In a separate bowl add flour salt and sugar in a bowl and whisk together. You can add any other dried fruit, oats, herbs or spices etc. if desired, to the dry mixture.
Add the flour to the water/yeast mixture and mix with a spoon or spatula (or floured hands, the dough will be sticky) until combined. I use my hands once the water is almost absorbed.
Cover the bowl with a dry tea-towel, and in a warm area set aside to rise for 1 hour or until doubled.
After the dough has risen use spatula to loosen dough from the edges of the bowl. Flour your hands well and sprinkle flour over the dough.
Gently remove dough from bowl and roughly shape it into a ball. Place dough on a large sheet of parchment paper and cover with the towel and let rise for another 1/2 hour.
During 2nd rise preheat oven to 450 and place your dutch oven into the oven with its lid on to heat during pre-heat.
After the second 1/2 hr rise take pot out of oven, pick up dough by the four corners of paper and carefully place in the pot. Replace lid (remember the pot is hot) and return to oven to bake for 35 minutes with lid on. Remove lid and bake for an additional 20 minutes with lid off. (This time can vary depending on desired crust and your oven).
Remove from pot to cool before serving.
Enjoy!
